July 25-27: Gilroy Garlic Festival. This food fair that made Gilroy famous is widely popular for many good reasons. The main draw, of course, is the food: garlic-infused versions of practically everything imaginable, from meats to veggies and even ice cream! Along Gourmet Alley, the gigantic outdoor kitchen, “pyro chefs” are quite the draw as they cook garlic-laced foods in huge iron skillets over blazing fires. The event also features the work of artists, children’s activities, live entertainment and strolling musicians. (Gilroy: Christmas Hill Park, 7050 Miller Ave.; 408/842-1625; www.gilroygarlicfestival.com)
