Temperatures may be rising now that summer is just around the corner, but at Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge and Restaurant, it’s hot all year round. The key operative word here is “ultra,” as this San Jose nightspot surpasses all expectations with its first-class service, luxurious décor and mouthwatering modern global cuisine.
With walls swathed in deep shades of red, plush banquettes and subtle lighting, Fahrenheit is a haven of urban sophistication without the pretentiousness that often befalls other posh spots. The hip vibe is amplified by the downtempo music and the good-looking staff members, who are not only stylishly clad but also provide top-notch service by catering to your every whim.
What’s an ultra lounge without an indulgent wine and cocktail list? With smooth, inventive concoctions like the Tequini, a tequila citrus martini and the Lychee Martini, Fahrenheit doesn’t disappoint.
The quality of the drinks is only matched by the haute cuisine. With executive chef Danny Chu at the helm, expect a delectable assortment of small plates and large entrees. The Panko Crusted Calamari, served with a lime-chili dipping sauce, is a new twist on an old favorite, and the Golden Potato Wraps, crispy pastries stuffed with beef, potato, onions and curry, are modern takes on samosas. Also recommended is the Cajun Seared Ahi Tuna, slices of rare tuna served with a sake-infused seaweed salad.
For the main course, try the Fire Grilled Chicken and Steak Satay, served with a spicy peanut sauce and fragrant curry rice, or the Asparagus Rib Eye Steak Rolls, arranged around a dollop of garlic mashed potatoes.
If you have room—and judging by the quality of the dessert menu, you’d definitely want to make room—the Fahrenheit Float, a root beer float with cognac, is a good choice, as is the Bananas Foster, flambéed baby bananas with vanilla gelato and a strawberry. The best part, though, is that you can eat like royalty without paying a king’s ransom.
Afterward, digest in bliss on a soft lounge chair, or work off the calories by heading out onto the dance floor as the DJ spins until the wee hours of morning. Whether you’re there to enjoy the great food, the sultry atmosphere or the smooth drinks, you’ll feel like a VIP long after your visit. —Stephanie Soong
