Scott's Seafood: Still a Fresh Favorite

There are good reasons why Scott’s Seafood continues to live up to its reputation as a Peninsula dining icon; the restaurant consistently provides an appealing menu combined with fine service, dished up in an atmosphere that blends sophistication with just the right touch of coziness.

Located in Palo Alto, across the street from Stanford University, Scott’s appetizer menu features a notably tasty fried calamari, lightly breaded and accompanied by a lemon garlic sauce that nicely balances the tart and tangy flavors. The ahi tuna is perfectly seared and served with a cream sauce with just enough flavor to complement —but not overpower—the delicate fish. The New England clam chowder is also a must at Scott’s, with generous chunks of fresh clam in a redolent cream sauce that’s at once sweet and savory.

Save room for the main event, however, as Scott’s delectable entrées have long been central to their success. The restaurant serves the freshest seafood available, including blue nose sea bass—a meaty, white fish that’s considered the restaurant’s hallmark. Dusted with almonds and served alongside fragrant garlic mashed potatoes, the plate is finished with a sweet balsamic reduction. Ripened tomatoes accompany the dish, adding a punch of mouthwatering sweetness.

For meat eaters, the 16-oz. ribeye, USDA prime and dry-aged, is topped with sautéed onions and served with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. So tender it cuts like butter, the ribeye is perhaps an unsung hero among Scott’s numerous seafood offerings.

The dinner menu is complemented by a wine offering that showcases numerous Napa and Sonoma varietals as well as many original cocktails including Scott’s signature Raspberry Jack Lemonade, featuring citrus vodka, triple sec macerated raspberries and a splash of freshly squeezed lemonade.

Scott’s ambience is both elegant and comfortable. The sophistication of white linens and diffused lighting is countered by exposed wooden beams, wainscoting and Lanai dining chairs. In a banquet room at the rear of the restaurant flies the Stanford Cardinals’ crimson colors. Live music in the bar creates a lively, upbeat atmosphere.
